The Journey to Sunfired Food
The founder of Sunfired Cuisine, Dr. Aris LaTham is known as the ‘father of gourmet ethical vegetarian raw food cuisine.’ In 1979, he conceived Sunfired following in the footsteps of his grandmother and mother, successful master chefs, to venture into the food service industry and purchase Savannah Herbs in Harlem, New York.
The business thrived and Aris expanded his servicece. In response to continuous requests from guests of Savannah Herbs for live food culinary knowledge, Aris set out to make it happen as only he could.
Sunfired on Wheels

The highlight of the cuisine is Aris’ Paradise Pies which was also the namesake of his West
Hollywood hangout on La Cienega Boulevard’s Restaurant Row. Recording artists, stage and screen stars, sports heroes and political figures frequented the restaurant. Actress Demi Moore, jazz sensation Patrice Rushen, movie star Ben Vereen, health activist Dick Gregory, authors Harvey and Marilyn Diamond and cookie giant Famous Amos are a few of the many personalities drawn to this new world of exotic healthy delicacies. Even The Artist, Prince, stopped in at the Beverly Hills Juice Club. Sunfired established the start of a new era of raw food cuisine in America that is purposefully designed for eaters rather than for sick care. It also became the first living foods dining experience to appeal to non-vegetarians, thus creating a mass appeal where there had not been one before.
The Golden Age
In 1988, Aris LaTham was appointed consulting master chef for the Hippocrates Health Institute when it moved to West Palm Beach, Florida. From 1990 to 1994 he led “The Golden Age of Raw Foods Revolution” when he teamed up with the then president of the Discovery Channel in Bethesda, Maryland where they co-owned Green City Market and Café.
Global Interest
Globally, interest in living foods has been surging dramatically since Dr. LaTham’s pioneering days andtyhat interest continues to rise at an astonishing rate. Aris has contributed tremendously to this remarkable phenomenon by having trained thousands of chefs through the Sunfired Culinary Institute over the past 30 years.
Raw Retreats – Living Food for Living People
During these years Aris evolved the Sunfired Experience to the concept of a healthy retreat vacation and
began offering it at the Cottonwood Hot Springs in Alabama. In 1995 he turned the concept into a permanent reality and pioneered it with Dick Gregory in Jamaica at the Tree House Hotel in Negril – turning it into the first living food resort haven in the Caribbean. In May 2000, after 36 years of a rich and full life in the USA, Aris surrendered his permanent residency there and moved on using his billing as the featured chef of The Raw Food Culinary Masters Showcase at Swept Away Resort as his springboard to a glorious life in “Paradise Jamaica”.

The Institutein Jamaicas is located in a beautiful nature reserve overlooking Jamaica’s picturesque North Coast, at Coyaba Gardens and Mahoe Falls. which are unsurpassed model environments of the concept of green living. Aris has a ten thousand-volume self-growth research library at his Panama City welcome center in the Bella Vista community in this modern business metropolis, where guests would spend the night after landing at the Tocumen International Airport before embarking on the 2 hour road journey to the Caribbean coast to cross the canal into Costa Abajo.
